Well..different women eat soil for various reasons, whilst some eat it for pregnancy sickness, some eat it for fun and some eat it to feed their cravings, yes cravings. For some it all began in their childhood stage, when they saw their friends, mothers or aunt eating soil and they started eating it as well. Some began in their teen stages and some during their pregnancy months.
The eaten soil is found at the street vendors, some women prefer mud from the rivers, some prefer soil form their gardens and some from the streets.
When one spend time consuming soil they become addicted to it, and develop tolerance for it. It is more like with people who are addicted to various drugs, but in this case it is soil. With time they consume more and more of the soil and they have a certain type of soil that they like to consume. Some are unable to cope without eating soil and are unable to eat normal food if they haven't consumed soil first.
People initially get energy when they consume soil, but as time goes on they begin to experience side effects. To name a few, they become weak, they experience high body temperatures( they feel an abnormal heat), constipation, dry mouths and a noisy stomach. Those who are unfortunate often become infertile and are unable to conceive due to eating soil, some have operations to remove soil that they have eaten, since they cannot bare the pain
Yes it is possible for one to quit eating soil, but it is very hard to do so, especially if one is already addicted to it( they can not live long without eating or thinking about it). Others are unable to find help from the doctor's prescribed medications, but most after a long battle eventually find their way out of this habit of eating soil. It is all about determination and persevering through temptations I would say.
In the process of quitting eating soil women often develop withdrawal symptoms, they experience constipation, pain on their left side of the abdomen just above the hip,and they constantly have grumbling stomaches, even when they are not hungry.
In conclusion, It is true that soil has its negative and positive impacts, from a scientific view one does benefit from the soil's stored minerals, It is used in different cultures for different purposes. I have seen how people struggle to quit and its damages in my township Alexandra. It's negative impacts are greater than positive impacts.
